US Coast Guard aircrew medevacs passenger to safety

Kodiak, Alaska – A Sitka Coast Guard crew evacuated a man from the Norwegian Encore cruise ship in Chatham Strait on Monday.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew arrived at the scene at 7:27 a.m. m. and safely lifted and transported the patient to wait for EMS personnel at Mt. Medical Center. Edgecumbe in Sitka.

Staff at the Coast Guard Sector Command Center in Juneau received a distress call from the cruise ship’s crew at 5:48 a.m. m., reporting that a 64-year-old man had been suffering from stroke-like symptoms since 4:35 a.m. m. of that morning.

The patient was reportedly in stable condition after being transferred to medical personnel in Sitka.
